Union County Divorce Records
Divorce records function as official evidence that a marriage has been legally terminated and divorced couples often require these records for name change and to enforce property ownership, among other reasons. Union County divorce records are maintained by the Union County Clerk of Court.
Interested persons can request divorce records from the clerk’s office in person or by mail. Divorce decrees are the most common kind of divorce records and provide important information about the marriage dissolution, such as, the names of the couple, the date the marriage officially ended, the court that ended the marriage, the divorce petition’s filing date, etc.
Divorce certificates (not court records) are obtainable from the county’s Register of Deeds office or North Carolina Vital Records. Divorces are handled by the Union County District Court.
